Two days chasing Yellowcheek in northern Vietnam. We moved between six different spots across the reservoir and landed four fish, the best of them about 5.1 kg.
How the trip went
Day by day
- Day 1A slower start. Yellowcheek were active, with plenty of blowups on the surface, but with so much bait in the water they followed and swiped at the lures without fully committing. One fish came to the boat.
- Day 2The fish switched on. Surface activity picked up through the day and the strikes became more decisive, with three Yellowcheek landed, including the best fish of the trip at about 5.1 kg.
From the guide
Day one was tough. The Yellowcheek were up and blowing up all day, but there was so much bait in the water that they had no reason to commit to a lure. We kept moving and kept casting at the blowups, and on day two it paid off with three fish, including the 5.1 kg.
